Creative Writing Assignment

I think that it is not the quantity of homework that is assigned to us that is the problem, but the quality of it. (And Bush's stupid No Child Left Behind lack of funding-ness. But we won't get into that.) Yes, I do get less than an average of 3 hours of homework a night, but considering the fact that most of the year, I'm not home for more than one half hour before 9/10 o' clock at night, for extra-curricular activities, and work, and church, and other activities outside of school, and that I'm not out of the ordinary from most high school students, more than 3 hours of homework would make my lifestyle even less healthy than it already is. What I'm trying to point out is, the lifestyle and expectations that we have of American high school students to be well-rounded individuals, don't allot enough time for them to have that significant amount of homework each night. But, we can offer more difficult classes. Teachers can't teach every student at the level the student is at, because they are made to handle larger and more classes each year. So, a graduating class of kids have been taught only the amount that the kids at the bottom of the class can handle. By all means, educators want to, and should, do all they can to get those kids to succeed, but in doing so with the time given to them, restrict the kids at the top of the class from reaching their full potential. If more funding were given to education itself, we could hire more teachers, with fewer students per teacher, and create harder and more advanced classes to offer. One of the most worthwhile courses that I ever took was English Junior year, because I took it as a college level course. I was given more work, at my actual reading ability, and had to analyze it, rather than answering trivia questions about reading fluff that I could've read in 3rd grade. I've had a post-secondary reading level since at least 6th grade, but all I've read in high school besides last year has been an at an 8th grade level or lower. Outside of school, thank goodness, I've been able to read works to stretch my abilities, but if I didn't read outside of school, I would be at the same reading level that I was in elementary school. That is a huge problem and a big waste of time to me, spending hours of homework on something that doesn't improve my mind. That is why all I say we need is better funding for for better classes for better homework, not more of it.

Forget mine, I want with yours. You're too darn smart Alex, I didn't make half that much sense. And I really wish we had more advanced classes, I get so bored in school, sadly that's where I do all my fun reading, because that's when I have the most spare time.
